National Service 60 The Royal British Legion will hold a special event on Tuesday 16 May 2023 at the National Memorial Arboretum to mark the service and sacrifice of this generation. If you are a veteran or lost a family member during the conflict please register your interest to attend the event below. Please pass on this email to anyone you know who might be interested. Tuesday 16 May 2023 marks the 60th anniversary since the last serviceman was demobbed from National Service. More than two million men served during this period of conscription, and 395 National Servicemen were killed during active service. Their names are inscribed on the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, where there is also the National Service Memorial. The event will be held at the National Memorial Arboretum, home of the Armed Forces Memorial, and will take place from 5pm – 7.30pm. The Arboretum will play a key role in highlighting the role of National Servicemen (such as in military operations from Korea to Cyprus) through an on-site exhibition, testimonies, music and a Service of Remembrance. D Day 79 RBL will be travelling to France for the 79th anniversary of the D Day commemorations. There will be services at the British Normandy Memorial and Bayeux War Cemetery, which is open to all to attend on the 6 June 2023. A full list of timings for the events will be on our website soon. We are also gathering a database of veterans who might wish to attend the 80th anniversary commemorations next year and will be in touch about how to register for this next month. Korea 70 We will be marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korea War on the 27 July 2023. Please keep an eye on the website for more details about this event.
